Favourite Tomato: Ripe ones!

I thought Tomkin was a vine type tomato so I wasn't expecting such a big truss of fruits on one of the F2 plants I'm growing? Attachments:

Sometimes breeders use a multiflora as one parent in a cross to make a commercial F1. This generally has an effect to increase the number of fruits per truss in the F1 line, and therefore productivity, but they will still have normal looking trusses. Grow the F2 and this will pop up again, I think single recessive gene so roughly one in four plants will show it. You might even see a spread like this: 25% normal truss and relatively stingy production, 50% normal truss and good production, 25% multiflora. The 50% are those that are still segregating for this trait.
I hadn't heard of Tomkin but on a quick search I see it is an award winning new supermarket tomato. How is the growout going? Nice taste? Much variation in fruit quality or flavour?

Thanks Maf interesting and helpful to have it broken down like that. I've grown just two plants, the above multiflora and another with nice long trusses most split into two. Both have very similar coloured and shaped fruit, the taste is ok better on the non multiflora though and much like or better than the parent fruit. They came from a pack I bought in winter time, must admit I didn't think they had particularly good flavour and the texture was a little soft to bite into, perhaps they were a little too ripe? But their shape is delightful which is much of the reason I saved seed and grew them again. Tomkin I think is the marketing name of Edioso F1 www.google.co.uk/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&es_th=1&ie=UTF-8#q=Edioso it seems to have good reports for flavour? Fruit quality on the two F2's is good, uniform bright red shiny fruits, more a two bites than eat whole. Shape is gorgeous and they remain in good condition for a fair while, both on the vine and picked. Taste is ok to nice on the better one, with the multiflora a step behind. They are fairly mild but a nice enough tomato taste with some sweetness, they are juicy and have a nice texture. Plants are vigorous and have cropped well in a poly-tunnel. I'm not much of a fan of multiflora types but the set on the one above is great. I'm not sure it is one I'll persevere with, I guess the taste isn't going to improve much? I'd like to use it in some crosses though. |

Florida Georgia Line is my favourite country music band. Headliners Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley are those people that could make anyone sing along. It's the reason I like to visit their concerts. Breaking Benjamin is my favourite rock-band of 90s. They had so many hit songs! The ones I remember are 'The Diary of Jane', 'Tourniquet' and their hit 'So Cold'. These are real masterpieces, not fake like today! And it is sooo good that they have a tour in 2020! And I'm going to visit Breaking Benjamin concert in 2020.
